Finnieston
About
Finnieston went from industrial wasteland to Glasgow's hippest food and drink strip in about a decade, and it's now where the city does its best eating and drinking. Argyle Street between Kelvingrove Park and the Clydeside is lined with restaurants, bars, and cafés — from the seafood at Crabshakk and the tapas at El Perro Negro to craft beer at Shilling Brewing Co. The strip has a brilliant energy without being pretentious. The Finnieston bar itself is a gorgeous cocktail den in a converted pub. Ox and Finch does creative small plates that rival anything in London. Porter & Rye is a properly good steakhouse. On a Friday or Saturday night, the whole strip buzzes with people moving between venues. It's a natural extension of the West End, sitting between Kelvingrove and the Hydro/SEC. If you're going to a gig at the Hydro, come early and eat on Argyle Street first. The area still has enough rough edges — the cranes, the railway arches, the odd empty plot — to feel genuinely Glasgow rather than generically gentrified.
