Cookie Policy

Effective 23rd April 2026

Pintrekker ("we," "our," "us") uses cookies and similar technologies to ensure the website functions properly, enhance your experience, and provide certain features. This policy explains what cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences.

  1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. They help remember information about your visit and preferences. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which serve comparable purposes.

  2. Types of Cookies We Use

    Essential Cookies (Always On)

Required for core site functionality. These are always active and do not require your consent under UK PECR. They include:

    Cookie Name Purpose Duration
Session cookie (e.g. pintrekker_session) Maintains your login session and account state Session (deleted when you close your browser) or up to 2 hours of inactivity
XSRF-TOKEN Protects against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks. This is a security cookie. Session / 2 hours
cookieConsent Remembers your cookie consent choice (which categories of non-essential cookies you have accepted or declined) so the banner is not shown on every visit 1 year
Google Maps cookies Required for map display and location services, which are essential for posting and searching Events and Places Varies (set by Google)

    Analytics Cookies (Consent Required)

Help us understand how users interact with the site. These cookies are only activated with your consent.

_ga_* Google Analytics 4 — maintains session state 2 years
_gid Google Analytics — distinguishes users 24 hours

Google Tag Manager loads and manages the analytics cookies above. It does not set its own persistent cookies but may use temporary cookies during page load.

Third-Party / Functional Cookies (Consent Required)

Enable optional features. These are non-essential and only used if you give consent.

    Cookie / Technology Purpose Duration
Google Social Login cookies Enable "Sign in with Google" functionality Varies (set by Google)

    Real-Time Communication

Our real-time messaging and notification system uses Pusher, which establishes a WebSocket connection to deliver messages, typing indicators, and read receipts. Pusher may store temporary connection tokens in memory during your session. These are not persistent cookies.

  3. Consent

On first visit, a cookie banner will appear asking for your consent to non-essential cookies. You can choose to:

    • Accept All Cookies
    • Manage Cookie Preferences (choose which categories to enable)

If you decline non-essential cookies, only essential cookies will be active. Some features, like social login and analytics, will not function without consent.

Your consent choice is stored in a cookie so we can remember your preference on subsequent visits.

  4. Managing Your Preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time via our Manage Cookies page.

You may also clear cookies from your browser settings, but this may affect site functionality (e.g. you will be logged out and your consent preference will be reset).

Essential cookies cannot be turned off, as they are necessary for the basic functioning of the site (login, security, navigation, maps).

  5. Local Storage and Session Storage

In addition to cookies, our site may use your browser's local storage or session storage to remember temporary preferences (such as map view state or filter selections). These are cleared when you close your browser (session storage) or when you clear your browser data (local storage). They do not track you across sites.

  6. Third-Party Cookies

Third-party services such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Maps, and Google Social Login may place cookies on your device. We do not control the content of these cookies. Non-essential third-party cookies are only activated with your consent. Google Maps cookies are classified as essential because map functionality is core to the service.
