The Old Vic
About
The Old Vic has been staging theatre on the Cut in Waterloo since 1818, making it one of the oldest and most distinguished theatres in London. Under Matthew Warchus's artistic directorship, the programming strikes a smart balance between big-name productions and riskier new work. The auditorium is a gorgeous Victorian horseshoe — intimate enough that even the back of the upper circle feels connected to the stage. The theatre has a strong commitment to accessibility. The Old Vic's PWC £10 Previews scheme offers every seat in the house for £10 at the first preview of each production — they go fast but it's an extraordinary deal. The Under 30s scheme offers £10 tickets throughout each run. The theatre also runs a popular community programme and workshops. The building itself underwent a major refurbishment and is in beautiful condition. The bar and café areas are welcoming, and the surrounding area has improved enormously — the Waterloo food market and the South Bank are both a short walk away. If you're going to see one show during a London trip, this is a venue that rarely disappoints.
