About

Remembrance Sunday is observed on the second Sunday of November across the UK — a day of national commemoration for those who died in wars and conflicts. The main ceremony takes place at the Cenotaph on Whitehall in London, with the monarch, political leaders, and veterans laying wreaths in a sombre, deeply moving ceremony broadcast live on the BBC. The two-minute silence at 11:00 is observed nationwide. War memorials in every town and village across the country hold their own services, with veterans, cadets, scouts, and community groups parading and laying wreaths. The Royal Albert Hall Festival of Remembrance on the Saturday evening is a powerful and emotional event. The Cenotaph ceremony is not publicly ticketed — veterans and their families take priority — but you can watch from nearby on Whitehall. Local ceremonies across the country are open to everyone. Wearing a poppy is traditional but not compulsory. The day is a profound expression of national memory — political views aside, the silence and the ceremony command genuine respect.
