About

Middleton Road, Higher Blackley, Manchester M25 2SW

Heaton Park is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe — 600 acres of parkland, woodland, gardens, and facilities in north Manchester. The Grade I-listed Heaton Hall sits at the centre, surrounded by formal gardens, a boating lake, an animal centre, a golf course, a bowling green, and enough open space to lose yourself in. The park has a working tramway with restored vintage trams, a horticultural centre, and a Farm Centre that's perfect for young families. The views from the upper slopes across Manchester and towards the Pennines are surprisingly expansive. In summer, the park has hosted major music events including stages for Parklife Festival. It's free to enter and genuinely vast — you could walk for an hour and not retrace your steps. The Lakeside Café does decent food. Bring a picnic on a sunny day and claim a spot near the Temple — a small folly with views across the lake. It's a proper community park, well-loved by north Manchester families, dog walkers, and runners. The Metrolink tram stops right at the park entrance.
