Afflecks
About
Afflecks is Manchester's temple of alternative culture — a four-storey indoor market in the Northern Quarter that's been the spiritual home of the city's counterculture since 1982. Think of it as a vertical maze of independent traders selling vintage clothing, band T-shirts, vinyl records, custom trainers, body piercings, crystals, handmade jewellery, and things you didn't know existed until you saw them. The atmosphere is uniquely Manchester: unpretentious, creative, and slightly chaotic. Each floor has its own character, and new stalls appear and disappear regularly. It's where Manchester's music, fashion, and art scenes have always intersected — Morrissey used to shop here, and the spirit of independent Manchester culture is alive in every stall. You don't need to buy anything to enjoy Afflecks — just wandering through it is an experience. But you will almost certainly find something you want, whether it's a rare Northern Soul 7-inch, a pair of vintage Levi's, or a custom phone case. It's a Manchester institution that hasn't sold out, and that's increasingly rare.
