About

Preston Park, Brighton BN1 6SD

Preston Park is Brighton's largest park — 63 acres of green space north of the station that includes formal gardens, a rockery, tennis courts, a velodrome, and acres of open grass. The park is best known for two things: the stunning Preston Park Rose Garden (which displays thousands of roses at peak bloom in June and July) and the Preston Park velodrome — one of the oldest cycling tracks in the UK. The park hosts Pride in the Park during Brighton Pride each August, and the event transforms the space into one enormous celebration. The rest of the year it's a quieter, more local affair — dog walkers, runners, and families enjoying the space. The twin elm-lined avenues that run through the park are particularly beautiful. The walled garden is a peaceful retreat, and the rockery (built in 1935 from recycled Brighton building materials) is charmingly eccentric. The park sits in the heart of the Preston Park neighbourhood, which has its own character — slightly more residential and family-oriented than central Brighton. The London Road shops and Open Market are a short walk away for food and supplies.
