Ashton Court Estate
About
Ashton Court Estate is 850 acres of parkland, deer park, and woodland on Bristol's western edge — a huge, beautiful space that feels like genuine countryside despite being less than two miles from the city centre. The estate has been here since the 11th century, and the Grade I-listed mansion (currently undergoing restoration) sits at its heart. The estate is crisscrossed with walking and cycling trails, and the deer park — home to herds of red and fallow deer — is one of the highlights. The miniature railway runs on selected dates and is a hit with young children. The mountain bike trails in the woodland are well-maintained and popular. The views back across the Avon Gorge to Clifton and the Suspension Bridge are stunning. Ashton Court is where Bristol comes to breathe — dog walkers, runners, families, and kite flyers all share the enormous open spaces. The annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta takes place here every August, filling the sky with over 100 hot air balloons in one of the most spectacular free events in the country. Free to enter, free to park (small charge at weekends in summer). A genuine treasure.
