About
Whitby Goth Weekend is a twice-yearly gathering of goths, alternative types, and anyone who appreciates black clothing, dramatic makeup, and Victorian architecture in the most appropriately Gothic seaside town in England. Whitby — with its ruined abbey, its connection to Dracula, and its brooding North Sea location — is the perfect setting. The event runs over a weekend with live music (goth, industrial, darkwave, post-punk), a Bizarre Bazaar market of alternative fashion and accessories, a football match between goths teams, and hundreds of magnificently dressed goths promenading through the town. The sight of elaborate Victorian, steampunk, and cyber-goth outfits against the backdrop of Whitby Abbey is spectacular. Whitby Goth Weekend happens twice a year — April and October (the October event coinciding with Halloween is the bigger one). The town embraces it completely — local shops display goth-themed window displays and the pubs welcome everyone. It's inclusive, friendly, and visually extraordinary. You don't need to be a goth to attend — the people-watching alone is worth the trip.
