About
The Edinburgh International Children's Festival (formerly Imaginate Festival) is the UK's largest performing arts festival for children and young people — a week of world-class theatre, dance, puppetry, and immersive performance created specifically for young audiences. The programming draws companies from across the world. Shows are typically age-banded (from babies to teenagers) and the quality is extraordinary — this is not panto or pantomime, but genuinely innovative work that treats young audiences with the same respect as adult ones. Many shows sell out, so book early. The festival takes place in venues across Edinburgh in late May/early June. Workshops and creative activities complement the performance programme. It's an excellent introduction to live performance for children, and parents frequently report being just as moved and entertained as their kids.
