About
Edinburgh's Christmas transforms the city centre into a festive wonderland — a major Christmas market in East Princes Street Gardens beneath the castle, an ice rink, a big wheel, fairground rides, and a programme of events that runs from late November to early January. The market stalls sell gifts, food, and drink with a Scottish flavour alongside European Christmas market traditions. The setting beneath Edinburgh Castle, lit up against the winter sky, is one of the most spectacular of any Christmas market in Europe. The ice rink and Ferris wheel in the gardens add to the atmosphere. The Star Flyer — a 60-metre swing ride — gives terrifying views across the city. Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) celebrations in Edinburgh are world-famous and run as a separately ticketed event. Book accommodation early for the festive period — Edinburgh is extremely popular at Christmas.
